SKCI Wrote for the Cleveland Museum of Art

SKCI’s director GC Jung contributed two essays to the Cleveland Museum of Art: One is an introduction of the Buddhist art of the late Joseon period and the other is a detailed explanation of the Amitabha Triad held in the CMA. Approval of Tax-Exemption Status from Korean Government, Effective to 2024

SKCI (지속가능한 한국문화연구소) got approved as a tax-exemption non-profit organization from Korean Government on December 27, 2019. The status is effective during six years from 2019 to 2024. Thanks for all involved pouring tremendous efforts in this tedious–back and forth–waiting process, especially for Jaeyong and Dr. Yang.

Harvard-Dartmouth Korean Art History Workshop 2019

GC had a presentation in the Harvard-Dartmouth Korean Art History Workshop 2019, held at the Korean Institute of Harvard University on December 6, 2019. Titled “Modern and Contemporary Korean Art: Continuity and Transformation,” the workshop was a great venue for scholars of Korean art based in North America to share their research. GC made a presentation on an ongoing Digital Humanities project of SKCI focusing on the the Chosŏn Art Exhibition (朝鮮美術展覽會, Chosŏn Misul Chŏllamhoe) (1922-1944). Its title is “Linked Korean Art: An Ontology-Based Semantic Approach to Korean Modern Art.”

Participation in 2019 CHA Symposium on Digital Heritage in Korea

Jaeyong and GC participated in the 2019 CHA International Symposium on Digital Heritage : Convergence of Digital Heritages, held in Gyeongju, Korea on September 20-21, 2019. Jaeyong presided over the symposium, and GC had a presentation on Heritage BIM titled “Why HBIM Ontology?”

Conference at Denver

GC Jung and Kim Yunseong (VR director, Postmedia) had presentations at the CEAL annual meeting at the AAS Denver Conference on March 21, 2019. GC presented the future of Korean BIM Ontology, and Kim explained the whole procedure from 3D documentation to digital exhibitions focusing on Jongmyo Shrine.

On February 14, 2019, GC Jung visited the Cleveland Museum of Art to present an updated exhibition plan of Jongmyo Shrine to the administrators in charge of exhibition at CMA.

Exhibition Consultation

We had a consultation meeting about our exhibition of a Virtual Jongmyo with three special guests: Sooa McCormick (associate curator of Korean Art, Cleveland Museum of Art), Myenghee Son (National Palace Museum of Art), and Hongju Yi (National Palace Museum of Art). Director Kim did a nice presentation of current plan of the exhibition. Yoonsik Yang and Seungmo Hong attended the meeting as well. Thanks all for time and dedication.

The Fall Jongmyo Rite
